Having questions?
Feel free to ask!The word REIKI is derived from two Japanese words, ‘Rei’ means ‘Universal Life’, and ‘Ki’ signifies ‘Energy’. Together, REIKI translates to ‘Universal Life Energy’. Today REIKI is used to describe a subtle and effective form of energy healing that aims to enhance the body’s natural healing capability, reduces stress and fosters wellbeing. This practice is based on the understanding that unseen life force energy flows through us and is what keeps us alive and vibrant.
The traditional Usui system of natural healing, also known as Usui Reiki, was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It was born out of Dr. Usui’s quest for personal spiritual growth, healing, and enlightenment. It is the traditional REIKI method that is practiced at Reiki Studio Berlin.
Following his retreat, Dr. Usui spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching this method of healing, which he called “Reiki”. His teachings focused on the use of this energy for self-healing, healing others, and personal spiritual development. Today, the Usui system of natural healing remains one of the most widely practiced forms of Reiki around the world.
A typical 50-minute REIKI treatment at REIKI Studio Berlin unfolds in a serene, peaceful environment. You will be asked to lie down on a massage table, fully clothed. Soft, soothing music often accompanies the session to facilitate deep relaxation.
The treatment begins with your REIKI practitioner performing a brief meditative practice to center themselves and connect with the universal life energy. The practitioner then places their hands lightly on or just above specific points on your body, starting at the stomach, continuing with the head and moving towards the feet. These hand placements correspond to the body’s energy centers, or ‘chakras’.
As the practitioner’s hands move through these positions, they channel the ‘ki’ or universal life energy through their palms to you. You might feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or simply a sense of deep relaxation during this process. The goal is to clear energy blockages, balance the energy flow, and stimulate your body’s innate healing capabilities. Each hand position is held for a few minutes, depending on how much REIKI the body needs at each position. The practitioner may intuitively spend more time on certain areas that require more energy.
After all the positions have been addressed, the practitioner will do a final grounding to help you integrate the energy work. You are then gently awakened, and the session concludes with a brief conversation about your experience and any sensations you had during the treatment. Remember, each REIKI session is unique, and people’s experiences can vary, but the aim remains constant: to foster a deep sense of relaxation and promote overall well-being.
While REIKI provides many benefits, it is important to acknowledge its limitations as well, particularly in the context of certain medical conditions. Before starting a treatment make sure to inform your REIKI practitioner about your medical situation.
For those with diabetes, REIKI’s potential to influence blood sugar levels means it should be approached with caution, always under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Individuals with a pacemaker should also avoid REIKI, as the energy transfer could possibly interfere with the device’s functioning.
Furthermore, REIKI should not be used as a standalone treatment for serious illnesses. It’s an excellent complementary therapy, able to aid relaxation and stress relief which can promote overall wellness. However, it does not replace the need for traditional medical treatment. For individuals with serious health conditions, consultation with a medical doctor is essential before undertaking any alternative or complementary therapies, including REIKI.
On a positive note, pregnant women can safely experience REIKI. This practice is non-invasive and can help manage stress, maintain balance, and foster a deeper connection between mother and child, contributing to a healthy pregnancy journey.
Ultimately, REIKI is a way to improve overall wellness and balance, but it should be used responsibly, respecting its limitations and the unique health conditions of each individual.
After working in Public Relations and Marketing for two decades, I realized that there must be more in life than business only. In 2022 I went on a spiritual journey that helped me to grow in the most unexpected way, finding my very own inner peace and my fascination for REIKI.
